High school baseball: Reed-Custer's Cougill elects to retire

Winning a state championship was not a prerequisite to retirement for long-time Reed-Custer baseball coach Jerry Cougill.

But it sure was an excellent benefit.

Cougill recently announced his intention to retire as Reed-Custer’s baseball coach, effective just after the veteran coach captured his second state title at the school with a thrilling victory over St. Joseph-Ogden in the Class 2A State Championship game. Cougill’s other state championship came in 1985.
